My first attempt...

...at designing a crocheted cropped topper.

The body is done in a stitch pattern from a Japanese crochet stitch dictionary. Sleeves are diagonal mesh, the front border is a simple shell edging, and the bottom border is a shell edging variation. Yarn is Longmeadow, previously reviewed.

I delurk today to say I really appreciate the information you're presenting on your blog. Working with Lily Chin's strategies for designing with crochet, the japanese stitch books and the yarn reviews have been especially appreciated. Of course, I always love seeing finished projects too. The topper is lovely and it's been very interesting to see it from start to finish.

Thanks for your comments, Paula -- it's been fun learning more about shaping in crochet -- opens up a lot more possibilities. Hope you'll 'de-lurk' again!
