A Look Back in Time

Just in time for the new year -- a retro crocheted pullover from w-a-a-a-ay back in 1965!

Pattern modifications were minimal. I lowered the neckline (in the front) just a bit, and also made the armhole deeper. The original pattern had sleeves worked separately, from the bottom up. I decided to work them from the top down so that I would know exactly how wide they needed to be for the newly deepened armhole. Seemed to work just fine, although I did need to re-work my sleeve decreases a couple of times in order to have them be as smooth as possible. Ripping and re-doing are never a waste of time if you end up with the look you want.

Here's a close up of the neckline:

Yarn used was Jaeger Baby Merino 4-ply, purchased from Webs as a closeout (the Jaeger line has been discontinued by Rowan). It's a nice enough yarn, but seems rather loosely plied, so the strands separate more than I like. I'm hoping it will wear reasonably well, as I envision this as an 'knock-about' type of sweater. Since it's merino I may not get my wish -- the price I paid, plus the color, make it all worthwhile to me though.

Very nice sweater I love that color. Don't you just love going back in time looking at things you either made or used to love back then I know I do. Great sweater:) Hope you had a great Christmas:)

wow - great pics. you don't see many people using oranges, but it seems lately the color has been growing on me. haven't tried to crochet a sweater yet - might just be inspired by your FO's!!

Thanks, Lesa -- hope you and the girls had a fine time too! And Lmardennh -- go for it, if it's something you want to do. Orange -- yup, people seem to either love it or 'not'. I think the problem is that it can be a difficult color for some folks to wear -- really needs someone with yellow skin undertones (rather than blue) to look good (IMO). The great thing is that there are plenty of fabulous colors out there for all of us!

Orange has been my sister's favorite color for years. But it didn't sound cool enough to be said in public, so for years she said that green was her favorite! lol Now she mentions 'golden orange' with a sophisticated air, and it works just fine. No weird looks. ;)
But you did raise a good point, it depends on your skin color really. Orange can either make you glow or make you look awful. You explained that well.
I am amazed at how fast you come up with new stuff. I still haven't finished that poncho for my 12yo girl, and she wanted it for Christmas. Ok, ok, so no computer and no books for me untill that poncho lies on her pretty frame. :)
